The Rule of Three
The Rule of Three simply means that things arranged in odd numbers are more appealing to the eye. This is because our brains love odd numbers causing your eyes to linger longer on vignettes featuring odd numbers, finding them more visually interesting. In other words, grouping items in odd numbers is an eye catcher.
This applies to floral arrangements (professional Florists always use odd numbers of flowers), photography, artworks and of course interior design.
So how can you apply the rule of three in your Home? When selecting your colour scheme think about using your main colour tone in 60% of the space, a secondary complimentary colour in 30% of the space and a contrasting colour in 10% of the space (picking up a feature colour of your favourite artwork or cushion is a great way to select your highlight colour).
Group similar objects such as Vases, Candles & Decor in groups of three. Grouping different shapes and sizes creates interest, however, try to use similar colours or tones to create some cohesion.
When styling your Lounge group Cushions in sets of three. To add more interest select coordinating but not necessarily matching designs. We like to mix shapes, textures & prints within a colour palette.
For your walls, hang artwork & prints in a triptych.
